Come and join us

The Task Team is made up of dedicated volunteers of all ages and from all walks of life, who are committed to improving the valley and its surroundings for the benefit of all of today’s users and future generations. You don’t have to be super-fit to join the team; we leave that to the many joggers that regularly use the nature trail. All we ask is that you turn up at the place and time agreed and then give as much time as you can afford.

The Team usually meets on the last Sunday of each month, meeting at 10.00 am and usually finishing between about 1 pm and 2 pm, depending on the task.  We sometimes organise midweek events with a smaller team and occasionally work with other groups. Children are welcome, but supervision remains the responsibility of an accompanying adult.

The group provides personal safety protection, tools and training where required and carries the required insurance.  Please come dressed appropriately for working in an often wet and sludgy valley wearing a stout pair of Wellingtons or boots and preferably a pair of gardening gloves.

Jobs undertaken by the team vary from woodland management and maintenance to dam repair work and footpath construction including structures such as fences, gates & stiles.  Usually there is a job to suit most volunteers, including the less fit and active. You get the satisfaction of a job well done, keeping fit working in the great outdoors and with something worthwhile to show for your effort. Working in the Rivelin Valley means you really can make a difference and the whole community benefits.

If you wish to join this team and put something back into the Rivelin you can do so by joining RVCG first and then contacting the Task Team Leader (taskteam@btinternet.com) for confirmation.

The work of the Task Team is funded mainly through the group’s fundraising activities and small grants.  Anyone wishing to make a contribution to the work of the Team can do so. All money donated will go towards RVCG work within the valley.
